Now that the trail system in the Chapel Hill development is completed, when can we expect to have the port a potty to be picked up. Several times due to the wind the port a potty has blown over. It is unsanitary and unsightly.

    Kwill asked 9 months ago

Hello Kwill. Thank you for submitting your question to SpeakUpHV. The project is not complete.  There are are hand railings on order yet to be installed.  OSHA requires sanitary facilities on a jobsite.

What is the reason all the trees along the pond fence on the Walmart trail were cut down? This looks horrible and depressing and has removed much needed shade. The workers from Family Tree Services told me the city hired them to removed all these trees. Why would you do the opposite of beautifying our city and trail system?

Karen Lenz asked 9 months ago

Hello Karen Lenz. Thank you for submitting your question to SpeakUpHV. The City of Highland Village Drainage Division is performing maintenance of the retention pond drainage site.  The perimeter fencing was becoming compromised by the overgrown vegetation and causing a safety issue in that area due to the steep grades leading down to the existing retention pond.  A maintenance plan has been put together to keep the fence line clear of future vegetation growth.  If you have further questions or comments, please contact the Director of Public Works at 972-317-2989 to discuss.

Hello, my family and I live in briarhill area and we often cross briarhill blvd. to go to kids castle and walks around. Using the crosswalk at Shannon lane and briarhill blvd. I’ve noticed it has become hard to cross the street because cars aren’t looking for pedestrian during the day or weekend. This crosswalk has a crossing guard for school zone hours but that is it. I am wondering if it would be possible to put one of the side walks with the yellow lights there to show pedestrians want to cross. I believe there is at least one on highland shores blvd and I know there is one by Marcus high school. Just trying to think of a better way to let family’s cross the street there safely when it is not a school zone time.

Opportunity Area 5 is still looking for ideas, including a covered pavillion at Copperas Cove Park. I suggest consideration for a pickleball courts center instead. I have seen these in other city rec areas, they are very successful and popular. All we have in HV is a few dual-purpose striped tennis courts. There is a great opportunity here for HV. Take a look here: https://www.builderonline.com/design/consumer-trends/pickleball-courts-emerge-as-newest-must-have-neighborhood-amenity_o?utm_source=newsletter&utm_content=Article&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=BP_021723&

    LLakefront asked 10 months ago

Hello LLakefront. Thank you for submitting your question to SpeakUpHV. In 2019 the City began the master planning process for Copperas Branch Park. Information on that process and the approved Master Plan and Executive Summary can be found here. If you have further questions or would like more information about the Copperas Branch Park Master Plan, please contact Phil Lozano, Director of Parks and Recreation, at plozano@highlandvillage.org or 972-317-7430. The City is open to discussing development opportunities with developers, including the possibility of a pickleball recreation and entertainment venue. There is a process developers must follow when submitting to the City – that information can be found here

Do HV police ever give tickets to speeders on HV road? I have rarely seen it and many drivers are well over 35 mph.

    Biggsv asked 10 months ago

Hello Biggsv. Thank you for submitting your question to SpeakUpHV.  Yes, HVPD does give tickets to speeders on Highland Village Road. And, to break it down, data was reviewed from Jan 1 , 2021, through Dec 31, 2022, (2 full calendar years) for Highland Village Rd, Highland Village, TX.

    • 814 traffic stops were made
    • 389 of those stops were for speeding:
      • 95 of those speeding stops resulted in citations for speeding.  (24.42%)
      • 294 of those speeding stops resulted in warnings. (75.57%)
    • Of the 814 total traffic stops made:
      • 211 of those stops resulted in citations.  (25.9%)
      • 603 of the 814 stops resulted in warnings.  (74.07%)

Our questions is regarding street repairs in Highland Shores. Highland Shores Blvd is in great need of repair, not patching. Also there are other streets in and around our home, such as Hillside and the 900 block Kingwood Circle that require a person to go around the bumps and holes to avoid them. We moved to Highland Village in 2010 because of the beautiful area. Seems like the constant patching of the streets are making the problem worse. Is there a plan in place for the streets to be repaired in 2023. Thank you

    MY4BOYS asked 11 months ago

Hello MY4BOYS. Thank you for submitting your question to SpeakUpHV. The City utilizes the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) method to evaluate all streets within the corporate limits. That method allows City staff to develop a pavement management plan. As part of the City’s pavement management plan, the City has a contractual street panel replacement program. (View examples of recent repairs here). In the past several years, the City has funded and replaced dozens of panels in the general area of Highland Shores Blvd and surrounding streets. City will continue to utilize the third party contractor to make concrete panel replacements as funding allows. City forces will continue with temporary pothole patching as needed. There are long-term plans for Highland Shores Blvd. reconstruction. The Denton County bond package that was recently approved by voters will provide the City will partial funding for a portion of Highland Shores Blvd. to be reconstructed. The project is currently in the design phase and anticipated to move into the construction phase late 2023. If you have additional questions, please contact Scott Kriston, Director of Public Works, at 972-317-2989.

What can be done about the speed of vehicles in Highland Shores down Hillside Drive (the one at the water fountain)? There used to be speed bumps that are no longer there. Children play and people walk in the streets as there are no sidewalks. It’s quite ridiculous that people drive 40 mph and up down the street. Appreciate you helping keep our streets safe and our children safer.

    T79 asked 11 months ago

Hello T79. Thank you for submitting your question to SpeakUpHV. The police department depends on information and reporting from citizens to help keep our City safe. HVPD will deploy city owned speed monitoring equipment for a week to collect data and help us determine what time(s) would be the most advantageous for us to deploy additional resources.

What is the plan for the pond just west of Sellmeyer Lane on the trail? The area was partially leveled not too long ago, but is an unsightly mess now.

    EricE asked 11 months ago

Hello EricE. Thank you for submitting your question on SpeakUpHV. The City is prepping the site for a new groundwater well to be constructed on the City property.  The City’s water supply is made up of ground water wells and surface water purchased through the Upper Trinity Regional Water District subscription.  Equipment has a life span and a well is no different.  The Lake Vista ground water well located near your property is at its end of life and needs to be replaced.  With the residential development taking place over the years, the ingress and egress to the existing Lake Vista station site for equipment needed to maintain and/or construct ground water wells has become difficult to a point that contractors can no longer navigate the public right-of-ways to get to the site.  Anticipating this well replacement, many years ago the City secured property located near the existing Lake Vista site with access off of Sellmeyer Lane.  The City is planning to install a new municipal ground water well that will provide water to the existing Lake Vista ground storage tank. This is an important project that will insure a continued reliable supply of potable water for the residents of Highland Village. The project is in the design phase at this time and is anticipated to move into the construction phase in the summer of 2023.

I see that there is work being done along 2499 and the railroad tracks (west side). Is this to connect the trail near Harlington to the trail system on the west side of 2499? If yes, when is it expected to be complete? Thanks!

    mss asked 11 months ago

Hello mss. Thank you for submitting your question on SpeakUpHV.  The work you are referencing is the Chapel Hill Sidewalk Improvement Project to provide the connection to the Inland Trail system. The project should be complete within the next month.

I really enjoyed having the Christmas lights at Doubletree Ranch Park. Is it possible to leave the lights up on the trees until the days on longer? There are areas on the trail around the park that are not well lit and it was great having the extra lighting.

    Pmkemp asked 11 months ago

Hello Pmkemp. Thank you for submitting your question to SpeakUpHV. Unfortunately we cannot leave the lights up longer due to other maintenance initiatives the parks department must complete in preparation for the spring and summer seasons.
